Craniosacral Therapy is a gentle, light touch technique used to release tensions in the body and to relieve numerous health issues. By
releasing restrictions on the brain and the spinal cord, it enhances the central nervous system performance and allows the body to relax and self-correct.
This technique is based on the osteopathic theories of William Sutherland, DO, and was refined by Dr. John Upledger following extensive scientific studies at Michigan State University from 1975 to 1983. A craniosacral motion, distinctly different from the breathing and the cardiovascular motions, was identified. This rhythm moves freely during optimal health but can be disrupted by disease, injuries, muscular strain and stress. The role of a craniosacral practitioner is to monitor this rhythm, identify any restrictions, and apply the technique to help the body self-correct.
Craniosacral therapy is an excellent technique used in the treatment of various conditions such as headache, neck and back pain, fibromyalgia, temporomandibular joint (TMJ) and stress related dysfunctions.
